Flying Finns the Cut Beetlez, the DJ/producer supersonic tag team upholding hip-hop innovation, go head to head with Philly meets Cali crew the Nice Guys. ‘CBNG’ sees how they bang.

Anchored by the two-minute warning of grimy, underground hip-hop mayhem that is ‘Cut Ya Ass Up’, the foursome pack 17 tracks inside thirty minutes. Jazz whimsy ('Home'), disarming loops and making the complicated sound made to measure (‘Graveyard Gravitas’), fight back against a sprawling timetable of boom-bap, turntablism and an off-radar hustling together of bars. Instrumental pauses for breath merely give Nice Guys to reload and send their rhymes choking on crate dust, flying ear-wards like a school hall spitball, shooting straight and spraying with a mic pointed at haphazard angles.

Cut Beetlez duo HP Lovescratch and DJ J-Man dropped the praiseworthy ‘Droppin’ Needles’ alongside Soundsci in 2017, and whose relaying of ‘Bad News’ with NYC’s Good People was supported last year by DJ Magazine and BBC 6 Music’s Nemone. Nice Guys pair Dirty Winters and Lynx 196.9 first came together with the Beetlez on the festive fresh ‘Party of the Year’/Namusia’ on the two-track ‘CBNGXMAS’. With ‘CBNG’, there’s no better way to “interrupt your tea and crumpets – get out the kitchen if you can’t stand the dangerous”.
